If you think a narcissist wanders around the house setting traps for burglars when they’re alone, you’ve been watching too many movies!
When they’re home alone, narcissists feel extremely uncomfortable. They hate the idea of being alone and will do anything to break out of the cycle of hostility that circulates in their minds.
There are 11 things narcissists do when they’re home alone. If you suspect they’re self-loathing, all those doubts will go away.
Narcissists need a place to live, and their homes are usually where they don’t want to be…
…especially if they’re alone!
When they’re alone, there’s no one to talk to. No one to lie to. No one to manipulate.
No one to control. No one to exaggerate. No one to admire. No one to flirt with. No one to pester.
Before you start feeling sorry for them, I want you to think about what that means. It means they’ll do crazy things for as long as the opportunity presents itself.
Being out of sight and out of mind means narcissists have extra work to do to get noticed, or to get that boost they crave.
…for them…
It’s a worrying time. Left to themselves, they have to keep themselves busy to prevent their self-loathing from escalating to a point they can’t control.
…for you…
Peace, perfect peace, right? You get a break from them without them at your feet or within arm’s reach.
And I bet you’re out there somewhere alone, loving your own company! (And it’s true!)
So, let’s break down these 11 things.
First, if they can’t be with you in person, they’ll definitely be hanging out with you online.
This stems from a desperate need to fill the void left by their insecurity.
Because they don’t know what you’re doing, they’ll look for signs that you’re busy (how dare you make plans without them, or not invite them?!).
They want to know what you did before meeting you, who you spent time with, and what you looked like, and they’ll sit for hours researching your information if they have to.
Google-searching your name and details isn’t impossible for them. If any search results provide more clues about your identity, that’s exactly what they’ll look for when they’re alone.

Who am I going to talk to now?
Set up a WhatsApp group chat?
What is this person I haven’t spoken to in months doing?
Texts will arrive on their phones and to people they least expect within minutes.
The narcissist will sit and wait for responses. Who will respond first? Will the message be engaging enough to give them the boost of motivation they’re clearly looking for?
Spending time chatting needlessly with people they don’t care about is a good way to spend that time. They’ll do it until the sun goes down (and beyond).
Social media is a rabbit hole we all easily find ourselves in from time to time. I’ll admit I’ve been guilty of watching short films during my commute, or if I’m having a bit of a lazy day.
This is different.
This is worse. #4 Busy, Busy, Busy
If they’re not busy, they quickly sink into the realization of how much they hate themselves.
I can’t stress this enough.
Narcissists hate themselves when they look in the mirror.
The idea that they’re not good enough is their most powerful trait, and they project it back to the world.
Nothing you do is ever good enough.
You’re the one who should suffer for their lack of self-love.
Any kind of hatred turns into entitlement. They deserve a comfortable life to make up for all the reasons they’re not worth anything.
Is it starting to make sense yet?
This mirror is my gateway to charming everyone I meet.
I have to smile, practice, and work on how I look in front of others.
This is not a time for jokes. This is me.
Mirrors are useful for narcissists to look in and act. Like a rehearsal stage, they show the narcissist what the outside world sees when they watch them. This has to be true, and it has to be perfect.
There’s no better time to do this than when you’re alone at home.
Exercise is healthy, and you don’t have to be a narcissist to want to stay fit and exercise.
Narcissists perform amazingly by exercising intensely and regularly, more than anyone you know.
They go to the gym, and if they can’t, they work out at home.
It’s a great opportunity to vent their frustrations when they’re alone. Knowing they’re constantly improving their appearance also works for them.
They assume all we care about is their appearance, but that’s never enough to distract them from their behavior.
If they can find information about you, or anyone else they know or want to know, online, narcissists will find a way.
They Google not just people, but events, shopping, the latest trends, the price of cars or homes they like, potential vacation ideas—the list is endless.
Google gives them knowledge, and knowledge represents a different power to them than mine or yours.
They use it to outshine others, or to appear smarter than everyone else in their environment.
So, yes, Google is famous.
If a narcissist finds themselves in a compromising situation and decides to spend the night at home, there’s no need to tell the world.
What will people think?
Oh my God, you can’t be as famous as you claim to be when you’re home alone.
So what do they do?
They post that they’re out and about, for starters.
Share photos they took a while ago of a tourist attraction they visited or a delicious meal they ate out.
Anything that makes them look busy, in demand, and important.
A narcissist’s flirting will always reach strangers online. It’s quick, easy, and involves instant gratification.
Flirting is not harmless to the narcissist, who enjoys appearing and feeling irresistible around them.
This is one of those occasions.
Pamper My Ego!
If there’s an opportunity to earn a living while you’re home alone, what do you have to lose, narcissist?
Narcissists are always in control. They know they’ll win in a situation where they’ve always had a living—the ghosts’ living.
For them, it’s a way to get what they need when no one or nothing else is entertaining them.
And last but not least—you get it.
Adult content is common among narcissists who find it difficult to engage in love or intimacy in normal society.
For them, watching an explicit video is enough to satisfy their desires. No love, no expression of love, and no one should feel uncomfortable about it later.
Of course—it has to be done alone—and that’s another narcissistic secret.
